Peter Zabierek, CFA
CEO and Portfolio Manager
Mr. Zabierek co-founded Sugi in 2018. He is one of the firm’s two portfolio managers. He also oversees the strategic development and day-to-day management of the company’s activities.
Mr. Zabierek has 26 years of professional experience, including the last 20 working exclusively in the global REIT space. Prior to founding Sugi, he was the CEO of Presima, a global real estate investment manager that grew from $500m to $2.1b under his leadership from 2013 to 2018. From 2003 to 2013, he was Managing Director and Co-Head of Global Real Estate Securities at CenterSquare Investment Management, a subsidiary of BNY Mellon Asset Management. In that role, he launched and served as Senior Portfolio Manager for $4.5b of global real estate securities and served on the firm’s management committee. During his ten-year tenure there, the business grew from $250m to $7.0b. He has also held real estate investment roles at Morgan Stanley and Salomon Smith Barney in New York.
Mr. Zabierek holds a Masters’ degrees in both business administration and civil engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He is also a registered professional engineer and CFA® charterholder. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of Harlem Lacrosse – Philadelphia.
Chris Carter, CFA, FRM
Portfolio Manager and Head of Portfolio Risk Management
Mr. Carter is a portfolio manager with Sugi. He has 15 years of buy-side experience in the real estate securities industry.
Prior to joining Sugi, Mr. Carter was a Portfolio Manager for long/short real estate securities strategies at Millennium Investors and Crestline Investors, focusing on generating strong absolute performance while minimizing volatility. Mr. Carter started his career at CenterSquare Investment Management, working alongside Mr. Zabierek, where he was portfolio manager for two global mandates, a global covered call strategy and a global concentrated strategy, totaling nearly $1.5b. There he also headed up the firm’s risk management function. He is certified by the Global Association of Risk Professionals as a Financial Risk Manager (FRM).
Mr. Carter graduated cum laude from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Economics with concentrations in real estate and finance. In addition to holding the FRM designation, he is a CFA® charterholder.
Jennifer Williams Zabierek
Co-Founder, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer
Ms. Zabierek co-founded Sugi in 2018. She currently serves as the firm’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. She led Sugi’s launch, including registration with state administrators, creation of Form ADV, business continuity plan and compliance policies and procedures. In addition, she established Sugi’s trading and operations platform and account structure.
Prior to co-founding Sugi, Ms. Zabierek served as a Vice President with Buckingham Capital Management, Inc., a hedge fund in New York City. There she traded equities and derivatives (hedging purposes only) for portfolios in two separate strategies, organized daily position reports, balanced portfolios, processed trades and managed settlement issues (Advent Axys), generated performance reports, tracked holdings and filed regulatory reports, and served as client services liaison to individuals and family offices by providing monthly performance reports, trade reports, tax documents and account services. Prior to Buckingham, Ms. Zabierek served as a Listed Equity Trading Assistant at First Albany Corp. in New York City.
Ms. Zabierek holds a Bachelor of Science, International Trade and Finance, from Louisiana State University. She is Series 65 registered (Investment adviser representative).
Mr. Tresham is Sugi’s Executive Chairman. He is the Founder of RittenVest Inc. – a private Canadian investment management firm, focusing on real estate.
Mr. Tresham most recently served as President at Ivanhoe Cambridge, the 10th largest real estate investing group in the world, where he oversaw its $60b global real estate portfolio. Previously, he held the C.O.O. roles at Callahan Capital Partners and Trizec Properties.
Bill has a B.A. in Economics from Princeton (1978), a law degree from McGill University (1984) and played professional hockey in Europe.
